If you attended Emerald City Comic Con this year and stopped by the Dark Horse booth, you may have noticed some new products announced for Dark Horse Direct.
We are very excited to introduce the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. Statuette Set! This set resembles the Syroco-style figures of the early to mid 1900s. You might be asking yourself "what is a Syroco figure?" Well, look no further! Here is a brief history on Syroco figures with corresponding photos below:
- Originally the Syracuse Ornamental Company, founded in 1890 by European immigrant woodcarver, Adolph Holstein.
- Unable to keep up with demand, Holstein developed a process to mass-produce replicas of his hand carved novelty items and figures by compressing a mixture of wood, flour, waxes, and resins into molds.
- Around the 1930s and 1940s, the company changed its name to Syroco Inc. and with a new company name, so came new novelty items and figurines.
- These included a variety of popular entertainers, personalities, and -you guessed it- comic book characters, including their rarest and most successful figure - Superman!
Dark Horse isn't new to this type of figures either. In fact, Dark Horse has proudly presented Syroco-style figures over the years including The Peanuts, Archie, X-Men, The Lone Ranger, and many more! Dark Horse even put out an original Hellboy figure in 2006 with the Classic Comic Character #1: Hellboy featuring the classic tin box and pin to go with it!
While our new set won't come with each character having it's own tin/button, it will come in a unique collectors box. The Hellboy and B.P.R.D. Statuette Set is a limited-edition and a "must have" for any Hellboy and B.P.R.D. fan, as well as the nostalgic syroco collector!
As always, be sure to check out our latest products available for pre-order here and stay tuned in to the Dark Horse Direct Newsletter and Dark Horse social media channels in the coming weeks. New collectibles are coming.
Cheers!
