Inspiration for the art:
While searching for inspiration for this particular piece, Amano was on a veranda rooftop at his home in Japan one evening in September of 2019. There happened to be a beautiful Harvest Moon in the sky, perfectly full. It was in this moment, Amano imagined Spaceboy, and the rest of The Umbrella Academy, bursting out of the blinding moon falling upon their unsuspecting target.

About the Artist:
Yoshitaka Amano was born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1952. An independent commercial illustrator since the 1980s, Amano became world famous through his designs for the first ten Final Fantasy games. Dark Horse has published over 40 books illustrated by Amano, including Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D series, Final Fantasy Ultimania, Deva Zan, Shinjuku, and more!

About the Creators:
Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s The Umbrella Academy was first published by Dark Horse Comics in 2007, and the debut series won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Limited Series among many other awards. The New York Times best-selling series is written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and Doom Patrol, and illustrated by Gabriel Bá of Two Brothers and the Eisner Award-winning limited series Daytripper, which he wrote with his brother Fábio Moon. After a long hiatus, The Umbrella Academy returned in 2019 with the graphic novel Hotel Oblivion, as well as the smash-hit Netflix series.
